The Legend of Bum-bo is a puzzle based "deckbuilding roguelike" prequel to The Binding of Isaac series developed by Edmund McMillen and James Interactive, released on Nov 12, 2019, on Steam. There have been a number of patches since its initial release.
When Bum-bo's only coin is stolen by a mysterious entity and pulled down into the sewer, Bum-bo finds himself facing droves of deranged enemies, lost children, his fears, and eventually the beast that stole his beloved coin.

Development[]
- The game was first announced by Edmund McMillen and revealed a teaser logo from his The Binding of Isaac website on March 22, 2016 while The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth second DLC's in development.[1]
- On March 31, 2016, Edmund leaked an image on Twitter featuring a Fly and a hulking, grotesque-looking monster who is possibly one of the game's bosses.[2]
- On April 6, 2016, Edmund leaked another image and confirms that there will be a teaser trailer video coming out some day. From this image, the game's graphics are cardboard styled with HUD textures similar from the core series of The Binding of Isaac. From the bottom of the screen, there is what appears to be an item inventory. A Dip and few Gaper enemies are also seen.[3]
- On April 8, 2016, James ID leaked an image on Twitter featuring three different-styled poop cardboards.[4]
- On April 13, 2016, on Twitter, James ID leaked another image featuring the poop monster clearly turns out to be the one who is previously leaked by Edmund back in March 31 from Twitter.[5]
- On April 19, 2016, from The Binding of Isaac website, with the following announcement of Afterbirth † DLC update, Edmund revealed an animated "game footage" image of the spin-off game, with the Beggar-like character (assumed to be Bum-bo) and Edmund's head in cardboard-styled graphics.[6]
- On May 10, 2016, again from The Binding of Isaac website, Edmund revealed a beta image, featuring two Flies and a Pooter during the fight.[7]
- On June 4, 2016, from Twitter, Edmund posted an art of the character who appears to be "defeated". It is unknown if it was going to be an image used for the game over screen.[8]
- On June 6, 2016, from The Binding of Isaac website, with the following announcement of a leaked Afterbirth † character, Edmund posted a image of the character Bum-bo the Brave's cardboard profile with stats and power details.[9]
- On June 28, 2016, from The Binding of Isaac website, Edmund posted another image of the character's info. This time, it is Bum-bo the Weird.[10]
- On July 7, 2016 James ID posted a screenshot on Twitter, featuring what appears to be a room-layout in an unfinished state.[11]
- On July 19, 2016, from Twitter, James ID posted an image of a Pooter during its modelling stage.[12]
- On July 22, 2016, once again from Twitter, James ID posted a gif of a Fly and Pooter's animation during gameplay.[13]
- On July 24, 2016, on Twitter, James ID posted another gif with unknown lump-shaped enemies in shadows during gameplay.[14]
- On July 26, 2016, from The Binding of Isaac website, Edmund posted a third image of another character's profile. This character is revealed to be Bum-bo the Nimble.[15]
- On July 28, 2016, on Twitter, Edmund posted an animated gif of Bum-bo the Brave with raining random cardboards.[16]
- On August 11, 2016, on Twitter, James ID posted an image of the doorway with objects lacking textures.[17]
- On August 17, 2016, on Twitter, James ID posted a photo of his room while explaining about the game's inspiration. Note that the game from his computer is briefly leaked.[18]
- On August 29, 2016, James ID uploaded a 36-second video on YouTube of "The Sewers of Dross" footage. It was shared on Edmund's TBoI website.[19]
- On September 4, 2016, on Twitter, James ID posted a leaked image of what appears to be just a placeholder art. (Big Rock item is leaked as well.)[20]
- On September 5, 2016, on Twitter, James ID posted an image which is a "HUD" model which is previously leaked yesterday.[21]
- On September 5, 2016, on Twitter, James ID posted another image of the "HUD" model.[22]
- On September 13, 2016, while announcing the update for Afterbirth + as well as the new game at TBoI website, Edmund announced that there are no news for The Legend of Bum-bo this week, but he and his team hopes to start revealing how this game's puzzle plays some day and also the story.[23]
